Where are we now?

February 15th, 2010

23rd February 2010: Some staff are onshore, waiting-on-weather. Most MMOs have returned from the field awaiting another contract commencing in April; two are  are still on a rig in the North Sea. Ian Todd (land-bound) is continuing his OSC-funded Ph.D. on harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) foraging ecology and acoustics at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research http://www.isvr.soton.ac.uk/ at Southampton University. Victoria Todd (land-bound) is submitting a paper on Galapagos fish to JMBA as part of her academic research duties.

Who are we and what do we do?

November 10th, 2009

We are primarily a group of Ph.D. – level-qualified marine biologists, oceanographers, marine engineers and underwater acousticians. As former research scientists in academia, we turned to industry to fund various aspects of our research.  We were incorporated in 2004, under the name Appin Scientific and in 2006 changed our name to reflect our main activities – ocean science. We undertake a range of services, specialising in underwater acoustics (the measurement and modelling of sound propagation) and bioacoustics (the noise of marine life), marine mammal observation (MMO) and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). A large proportion of the company profits are re-invested in the research and development and scientific research. While we operate under strict non-disclosure agreements, we aim to undertake as much peer-reviewed research as possible.

Welcome to the OSC Blog!

October 29th, 2009

Our clients suggested that, because Ocean Science Consulting (OSC) personnel are involved in so many interesting projects worldwide, we should start a blog. Much of our work, however, is carried out under strict client confidentiality agreements, so we will endeavour to update you as to our activities via this blog, whenever we can. Please feel free to post comments and responses to our news and do have a look at our website for general news, job postings and services we provide. If you need any other information, you can contact us through our website.
